Late Victorian antique engagement ring composed of a cluster of old European cut and old mine cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.90 carats total set in yellow gold. The domed cluster centers a larger old European cut diamond surrounded by concentric rows of old mine and old European cut diamonds, a style popular at the turn of the 20th century when jewelers emphasized abundant diamond surfaces and dramatic sparkle. The diamonds display classic antique cutting characteristics including high crowns, small tables, and open culets typical of hand cut stones from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The cluster is raised within a cut-down gold gallery designed to allow light beneath the stones while creating the sculptural dome characteristic of Victorian cluster rings.
